Akita Camp Dam / Peoria County, Illinois

Maurer-Stutz, Inc. was retained in 2000 to assist the Client with design and permitting of a proposed dam for Akita Camp.

Maurer-Stutz worked closely with the Client and Illinois Department of Natural Resources on design of the earthen dam, emergency draw-down structure and modifications to the downstream roadway with the addition of several box culverts to allow for discharges from the proposed dam.

Dan Brown Lake & Dam / Tazewell County, Illinois

Maurer-Stutz, Inc. was retained to develop a preliminary plan, a preliminary design report and investigate DNR-OWR permitting of a proposed dam for Dan Brown. Subsequently, MSI was retained for design, permitting and construction phase assistance. The dam was planned for agricultural and recreational use.

The principal spillway passes the 25-yr storm event through a 24” RCP-PR pipe to a rip rap lined plunge pool.  The dam was designed with 13.5 surface acres and has two islands.  It contains 105 acre-feet of storage at normal pool elevation and a total of 198 acre-feet of storage below freeboard at the 100-yr storm peak flow elevation.

The final design report, mitigation plan, operation and maintenance plan, and construction specifications were developed and submitted.  ACOE 404 permit was obtained for loss of stream bed utilizing mitigation by enhancement of another nearby stream.  A dam safety permit was obtained from IDNR-OWR.  The dam was completed and the final inspection report was submitted to IDNR-OWR.

Canton Lake Dam / Canton, Illinois

Maurer-Stutz, Inc. has worked with the City of Canton on performing annual inspections of the earthen dam for Canton Lake since 2000.  In 2006/2007, Maurer-Stutz sub-consulted with Infrared Diagnostics, Inc. out of St. Louis, Missouri to complete a subsurface investigation of the spillway and apron walls.

Maurer-Stutz has recently worked with the City of Canton, Illinois Department of Natural Resources and Fulton County ESDA to update their Operation and Maintenance Plan and Emergency Action Plan.

Due to the flooding in March and April of 2013, the concrete spillway and apron along with the stilling basin have been damaged.  Maurer-Stutz worked with the City and Fulton County ESDA to prepare a request for assistance to FEMA.  We are currently working with the City and FEMA on funding to repair the spillway and stilling basin.

Norris Impoundment / Norris, Illinois

Maurer-Stutz, Inc. was retained in 2007 to assist the Client with transferring and updating the IDNR-OWR permit for an impoundment that was once used as a coal slurry disposal site from the 1960’s to 1978.  IDNR took over ownership of the impoundment and our Client purchased from IDNR in 2006.

Maurer-Stutz, Inc. worked with IDNR and the Client to finish putting together documentation that included: complete an inspection of the dam; prepare a breach analysis, operation and maintenance plan and emergency action plan; worked with the Fulton County ESDA on the emergency action plan; and submitted a new joint application form.  AMEC (formerly Mactec) was a sub-consultant on this project and prepared the breach analysis.  Maurer-Stutz, Inc. has completed annual inspections of the earthen impoundment since 2007.
