We specialize in construction engineering services for our public and private clients.
Maurer-Stutz, Inc. provides comprehensive construction engineering services for public and private clients. Whether managing roadway reconstruction, site improvements, or utility installation, we combine experienced field teams with advanced tools like Appia, CMMS, and Esri GIS to ensure high-quality, compliant, and efficient project delivery.
Maurer-Stutz specializes in construction oversight for roadway and transportation infrastructure, working closely with IDOT, local highway departments, and municipal agencies. Our team delivers construction-phase services tailored to the complexities of each project, including road and bridge construction observation, erosion control inspections in accordance with IDOT standards, preparation of pay estimates, documentation and change orders, as well as coordination of final inspections and project closeout.
Our team observes Phase III construction for roadways, including concrete pavement placement, HMA paving, curb and gutter construction, sidewalks, and shared-use paths. We verify that materials, workmanship, and installation methods align with approved plans, specifications, and applicable standards. Our services also include observing ADA-compliant features such as curb ramps, detectable warning surfaces, and sidewalk slopes, as well as stormwater and drainage improvements including inlets, culverts, and grading. Through consistent field presence, coordination with contractors, and thorough documentation, we help support successful project delivery and long-term roadway performance.
We provide construction observation services for bridge projects to help ensure quality, safety, and compliance throughout construction. Our team observes foundation, substructure, superstructure, and deck work, including concrete placement, reinforcing steel, structural steel erection, bearings, and joints, to verify conformance with project plans and specifications. Through consistent field presence, coordination with contractors, and clear documentation, we help support efficient construction and the delivery of durable, long-lasting bridge structures.
We provide construction observation for culvert replacements, extensions, and new installations on roadway and drainage projects. Our team observes excavation and dewatering, bedding and backfill, culvert assembly and placement (including multi-plate, precast, and pipe-arch structures), concrete toe walls and collars, riprap and scour protection, and associated earthwork and slope restoration. We verify that materials, workmanship, and installation methods conform to approved plans, specifications, and applicable standards. Through consistent field presence, contractor coordination, and thorough documentation—including material certifications, quantity tracking, and quality-assurance testing—we help deliver durable, properly functioning drainage structures.
We bring experienced construction engineering services to bike and pedestrian trail projects to help ensure quality, safety, and accessibility. Our team observes trail grading, pavement placement, curb and edge treatments, sidewalks, and shared-use paths, verifying that work conforms to approved plans and specifications. Services also include observation of ADA-compliant features, drainage elements, signage, and site restoration. Through consistent field presence and coordination with contractors, we help support the successful delivery of safe, durable, and accessible trail facilities.
Maurer-Stutz provided Phase III Construction Resident Engineering for the roadway reconstruction of Glen Avenue between US 150 and University Street in Peoria, IL. Project included PCC pavement, curb and gutter, medians, storm sewer, traffic signals and collateral improvements. MSI provided Resident Engineering for the locally funded complete reconstruction by providing daily documentation, material certifications, QA testing, authorizations, pay estimates and coordination with various stakeholders.
Maurer-Stutz managed the construction observation for full depth reconstruction along with water main and storm sewer installation. Roadway work consisted of removals along with placing 14,000 SY jointed 8” PCC pavement, curb and gutter, and ADA compliant ramps and sidewalks. Infrastructure work consisted of placing 4,000’ of 12” water main and new storm sewer structures and piping. Tasks included GPS and written documentation for ILAWC, ADA and layout checks, communication/coordination with residents, coordination for field adjustments, payment submittals, and web-based tracking for quantities/materials with Appia software.
The project included construction of a single-span urban bridge with a cast-in-place deck on steel I-beams, featuring arched fascia beams and decorative concrete rails that reflect the historic 1942 structure. The bridge accommodates two-way bicycle lanes and a pedestrian sidewalk, along with MSE walls utilizing both granular fill and lightweight cellular concrete to protect existing utilities. Sustainable elements included bioswales, dry well drainage systems for stormwater infiltration, and native tree plantings.
Resident engineering services were provided by Maurer-Stutz to complete full depth reconstruction along with guardrail and storm sewer installations. Roadway work consisted of removals, soil modification, and placing 14,000 SY of composite pavement, curb and gutter, and ADA compliant ramps and sidewalks. Tasks for City of Peoria included coordination with utilities, communication/coordination with residents, coordination for field adjustments, payment submittals, and web-based tracking for quantities/materials with Appia software.
Maurer-Stutz was responsible for the construction observation for MFT funded extension of the existing Multi-Plate 19’-8” x 12’-8” Pipe Arch and earthwork to decrease embankment slopes. Work consisted of removals, dewatering, culvert assembly and placement, PCC toe walls and collars, riprap placement, embankment building QC, and placing seeding/erosion control blanket along the slope. Tasks included IDOT material certifications, QA PCC testing, web-based tracking of materials and quantities, and construction layout assistance.
