Where there is clean water, there is life. Plentiful, clean and safe drinking water is one of life’s basic necessities. We know our clients take it seriously, and so do we. We strive to balance respect for the environment with society’s need for this most basic building block that makes life possible. For these reasons, our professionals believe that water distribution, storage, and treatment infrastructure services are among the most important services that we provide to our clients.
It is always our goal to provide our clients with water distribution, storage and treatment facilities that are efficient, cost-effective, and operator-friendly. We accomplish this by carefully listening to our clients and including them as an integral part of the design staff. Our company has extensive experience designing water distribution, storage and treatment facilities for municipalities, water districts and industries. With experience ranging from wells, pumping stations and elevated water storage facilities to complex rehabilitations of existing water treatment facilities, our staff of highly qualified and experienced professionals are ready to assist you as you seek to address your water infrastructure needs.
We provide comprehensive design and expansion services for potable water mains and transmission systems serving both municipal and private clients. Our team models and analyzes distribution and raw-water systems to ensure reliable pressure, adequate fire flow, and overall system efficiency. We also support long-term system planning, rate studies, permitting, and construction oversight to deliver fully integrated water infrastructure solutions.
We engineer water storage facilities—including elevated tanks, standpipes, and clearwells—designed to meet the specific needs of each community. Our services include rehabilitation and expansion of existing tanks to enhance capacity, safety, and longevity, along with full preparation of plans, specifications, bidding documents, and construction administration. We also ensure storage infrastructure is fully integrated with distribution and supply systems to provide reliable, efficient service.
We design and rehabilitate water treatment facilities, including filter media replacements and underdrain system upgrades. Our team implements treatment enhancements—such as ion-exchange softening and improved disinfection systems—to increase capacity and ensure compliance with water-quality standards. We also coordinate construction, operational testing, and long-term performance improvements to deliver reliable, efficient treatment solutions.

Maurer-Stutz provided design and engineering services for the Village of Peoria Heights to replace aging water infrastructure. The project included 4,500 ft of new 16” and 20” transmission main, replacement of low service booster pumps, and elimination of the ground storage tank and high-level boosters. Directional drilling was used for 300 ft on steep terrain. The project was funded through an IEPA loan and an energy grant to reduce electric costs.
Maurer-Stutz provided engineering services for Illinois-American Water Company to replace undersized water mains and improve distribution in a Peoria neighborhood. The project upgraded 2” and 4” mains to an 8” looped main on Missouri Street and Ellington Drive, enhancing fire flow, circulation, and water quality, with close coordination to minimize disruption to residents and other utilities.
Maurer-Stutz prepared plans, specifications, and bidding documents for the North Tazewell Public Water District to extend 1,800 ft of 12” water main from a new well to the existing plant. The project included a pump house, standby generator, and electrical systems, with electrical design provided by subconsultant Midwest Engineering Professionals, Inc.
Maurer-Stutz prepared specifications, drawings, and bidding documents for painting and safety improvements on three Peoria Heights water storage tanks: Kingman (500,000 gal standpipe), Toledo (500,000 gal spheroid), and Galena (1,000,000 gal standpipe). Services also included bidding support, construction administration, and part-time construction observation.
Maurer-Stutz designed a new 550 gpm ion exchange water softening system for the City of Marquette Heights to expand capacity and replace aging facilities. The project included three ion exchange units and two underground brine storage tanks. Construction was coordinated closely with the City and contractors, and completed with minimal change orders under 1% of the bid price, while keeping the existing plant in service until the new system was operational.
Maurer-Stutz, with subconsultant MEP, partnered with The Wetlands Initiative to upgrade the Dixon Waterfowl Refuge pump station near Hennepin, IL. The project replaced an above-grade propeller pump with a 30,000 gpm submersible pump, and elevated all electrical equipment and a control building to the 500-year flood elevation to ensure operation during high water events.
