Intern Spotlight: 2026 Summer Interns at MSI

Each summer, Maurer-Stutz is proud to welcome a group of talented interns who bring fresh energy, curiosity, and enthusiasm to our teams. This year, we are excited to welcome eight interns across our service groups. Our interns are gaining hands-on experience in Agricultural, Construction, Geospatial, Structural, Transportation, and Water/Wastewater while contributing to real projects that impact communities across the region.

We’re excited to highlight our 2026 summer interns and the paths they’re pursuing in engineering and related fields.

Agricultural

Stephen Grichnik is an Agricultural Engineering student at Iowa State University supporting our Agricultural group this summer. He enjoys tackling challenging problems and seeing solutions come to life. Outside of work, Stephen enjoys fishing, hunting, wrestling, and chess, and follows both the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Bears.

Construction

Nolan Dexter is a Civil Engineering student at the University of Iowa supporting our Construction group. He is interested in the design side of engineering and how critical accurate planning is to successful projects. Outside of work, Nolan enjoys running, golfing, video games, and watching sports.

Construction

Mason Rader is a Civil Engineering student at Bradley University also supporting Construction. He is drawn to STEM fields and enjoys the problem-solving nature of engineering. Outside of work, Mason enjoys spending time with friends and family, following NFL and other sports, and hanging out with his dog, Rory.

Construction

Hayes DeWitt is a Physics and Civil Engineering student at Illinois Wesleyan University supporting our Construction group. He enjoys the process of creating work that benefits others and brings ideas to life. Outside of work, Hayes enjoys lacrosse, hunting, fishing, movies, water sports, and card games—and has lived in five different states.

Geospatial

Roger Jackson is a Geography student at Illinois State University working with our Geospatial group. He is interested in science, mapping, and creating tools that help better understand the world around us. Outside of work, Roger enjoys camping, hiking, animals, video games, and horror movies.

Structural

Mason Walker is a graduate student in Structural Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign supporting the Structural group. He enjoys the challenge of designing complex systems that people rely on every day for years to come. Outside of work, Mason enjoys sports, lifting, traveling, singing, and collecting baseball cards.

Transportation

Ethan Zellner is a Civil Engineering student at Bradley University, where he also serves as president of the ASCE student chapter. With minors in Construction Management, Sustainability, and History, Ethan is passionate about how civil engineering shapes society and the environment. Outside of work, he enjoys skiing, lifting, recreational sports, movies, and spending time with family and friends.

Water/Wastewater

Jack Ziemba is a returning intern and Senior Civil Engineering student at Bradley University supporting our Water/Wastewater group. He enjoys solving problems and seeing the positive impact engineers have in their communities. Outside of work, he enjoys working on vehicles, playing video games, and landscaping. One of his most memorable travel experiences was a trip to Iceland.

Looking Ahead

Our interns continue to be an important part of the MSI team—bringing energy, curiosity, and fresh perspectives to the work we do every day. We’re proud to support their growth as future professionals and engineers, and we look forward to seeing the impact they continue to make throughout the summer and beyond.
