Veterans Parkway (I-55 Business) over Interstate 74 / Bloomington, ILlinois

Phase I Structural Study and Phase II Structural Design of the reconstruction of the interchange structures at Veterans Parkway (I-55 Business) and I-74 in Bloomington, Illinois.

The project consisted of the complete removal and replacement of four structures carrying Veterans Parkway over I-74. New bridges consisted of a straight, three span, steel beam superstructures supported on piers and integral abutments. Two of the bridges incorporated a 30 degree skew.

Maurer-Stutz prepared a complete Structure Geotechnical Report including coordination of a sub-surface site investigation with our sub-consultant. Work also included foundation analysis and recommendations for abutments and piers and approach slab footings. Type, Size, and Location drawings were prepared along with all structure plans and specifications.

Preliminary design services included analysis of existing roadway and ramp geometries for concurrence with new design criteria. Also assisted District 5 designers in development of geometries for future widening of I-74 beneath Veteran’s Parkway.

 

Allen Road Reconstruction / Peoria, Illinois

Phase I Study and Phase II Design of the reconstruction of the section of Allen Road from Townline Road to Alta Road in Peoria, Illinois. The project consisted of 1.1 miles of pavement widening, realignment and reconstruction, five intersection reconstructions, a freeway interchange terminal, reconstruction and widening of a 5-lane plus a path freeway overpass, construction of a multi-use trail tunnel under the roadway, and realignment of a y-intersection to a t-intersection. A total of 4 Intersection Design Studies (IDS’s) were prepared and coordinated with IDOT as part of the Phase I Study that included preliminary design of 2 roundabouts. Study also required Section 4(f) public land coordination due to the adjacent Rock Island Trail.

The structural work also included the coordination and design of a box culvert tunnel beneath Allen Road for the Rock Island Trail State Park Crossing. New signals were designed at all of the intersections, along with a storm sewer system with detention whose needs were identified during the location drainage study for the project.

 

Pinecrest Drive over Interstate 74 / East Peoria, Illinois

Phase I Study and Phase II PS&E for the replacement of a geometrically deficient overpass bridge at a busy I-74 interchange in East Peoria. Project includes an interchange with 4 ramp terminals along with 4 frontage roads serving numerous light industrial facilities. The designed interstate overpass is wider to accommodate a multi-use path.

Consultant services consisted of all Phase I and Phase II duties including BCR, SGR, TS&L, preliminary structure design, development of new roadway profiles for both Pinecrest Drive and I-74, development of new typical sections for anticipated future lane additions of I-74 and for the various segments of Pinecrest Drive, and a TMP involving stage construction.
