Engineers from Maurer-Stutz and Construction Crews from Stark Excavating, Inc. have been working hard to reconstruct the deteriorated MacArthur Highway Bridge in Peoria, IL. The project consists of the removal of the existing structure and roadway and replacing it with an updated design, green infrastructure, and an optimized geometry. While the team is working hard to stay on schedule during the Spring and Summer weather, they began to notice an unexpected audience. Children from the Valeska Hinton Early Childhood Education Center in Peoria, IL started to take daily "Field Trips" to check up on the construction progress. This presented Maurer-Stutz and Stark Excavating with an opportunity to interact and share their knowledge of bridge construction with young members of the community. The students were able to learn how Engineers, Laborers, Equipment Operators, Ironworkers, and Carpenters all come together to get big tasks, like building a bridge, done!
