Built to Last: A Look Back at Maurer-Stutz

With roots that date back to the 1960’s, Maurer Stutz has been a staple of the Central Illinois Engineering landscape for more than a half century. Sometimes, it’s too easy to get lost in the whirl of projects that consume days, months, and years. So we decided to look back at some of our favorite projects.

Maurer-Stutz has offices in Peoria and Canton, Illinois, as well as Muncie, Indiana, and our reach extends throughout the Midwest.

Over the years we have done quite a lot of projects. One major project was the retaining wall at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown, Illinois . This project was completed in 2009, and Maurer-Stutz was integral in the design and construction phases of the project. Oak Hill, site of Edgar Lee Masters’ Spoon River Anthologies, was added to the National Registry of Historic Places in 1995. This presented a unique work environment as Maurer-Stutz was tasked with recreating a failing wall that incorporated bricks from the native clay. By using concrete block, then dyeing them to match the previous bricks, we were able to complete the project while keeping its aesthetics authentic.

Fast forward a decade or so, and our crews are busy working on the McCluggage Bridge replacement project. When complete, this $250 million dollar project will transform not only the Peoria skyline, but also outfit the metropolitan travel corridor for decades to come.

By staying true to our mission, and constantly improving the services we offer, Maurer-Stutz has established itself as a pillar of the Engineering and Surveying community of Illinois and the Midwest.
